All the Right Moves - The Key to Blackjack Strategy

Many people enjoy playing Blackjack. It doesn’t matter if you are a high roller, a low roller, or somewhere in between. If you know how to play the game you will be ready to hit the casinos for a day of fun!

The thrill and excitement of the casino is something that draws many people in, and whatever your skill level is you won’t want to go home empty handed. If you’ve never played Blackjack, you are a beginner looking for new tips, or you are a skilled player looking to improve their game then you’ve come to the right place. We’ve designed this guide with you in mind!

If you want to win the black jack game then you need to start out by learning how the game is played before attempting to figure out how to increase your odds at winning. While this article might not be able to make you a high roller, it can help up your chances and teach you the basic strategies of the age old game of Blackjack.

Math and Blackjack go hand in hand. If you have an elementary understanding of Math you are one step closer to gaining the winning edge! By using a little mathematical skill you have an open shot to reduce the house edge as much as possible. In general by using the proper mathematical system you will be able to drop the house edge to about one half of 1%. Of course, it is also important to understand that this percentage will change slightly based on the casino you visit and the rules that they have established.

To give you an idea of how casino rules will change the house advantage and in this case, their minimal percentage, consider the following situations. Casinos will have different rules which will affect the advantages. The double down is a good example of this. If you have split your hand some casinos will prohibit a double down, while others will allow the move to be played. The same can be said for the difference between a single and a double deck game.

The key to success is going to be the strategy you use to play the game. This is true with any game especially blackjack. This means the key is going to be to learn the basic tips and strategies that will lead you towards the winning edge and keep you on the right side of the game.

Let's start with some common sense. The house is going to have the advantage against you in the beginning because they deal you the cards and you are forced to lead the way with a decision. That first decision you make could be your last. It's definitely going to set the pace for the game either way. So, what do you do? Well, that all depends on your cards.

The following tips will better ease you into understanding the necessary strategies for blackjack. You could easily place these on a computer program or flash cards for memorization techniques or you could look up one of the many strategy charts on the Internet.

It is important to note that free black jack game strategy guides ask you what type of hand you are playing and require you to fill in some basic options for a strategy chart to emerge. You will need to know the difference between a hard and soft hand. For clarification and to make things easier on you remember that a hard hand is a set of two cards without an ace while a soft hand contains an ace and another card.

To play a hard hand of blackjack you should use the following guidelines to find some success:

  • A total of 8 or below always gets a hit

  • A total of 13-16 should keep you standing if the dealer has a card showing between 2 and 6. If not, it’s time for a hit on your end

  • A total of 17-21 is an automatic stand

A hard hand and doubling

  • If you have a 9 and the dealer is showing a card ranging from 3 to 6 than double. If it is higher than hit.

  • If you have a 10 and the dealer is showing anything from a 2 to a 9 than double. If not take a hit.

  • For a score of 11 look to the dealers hand for anything from a 2 to a 10. Double if you see one of those cards and hit if you see the ace.

  • For a total of 12 you will want to look at the dealers hand closely. You should hit for a card of 2 or 3, stand for 4 to 6, and hit for all other cards.

Once you have those down we need to consider what happens if you get an ace and have a soft hand. Here are some guidelines:

  • An ace + 2 or 3 means double if your dealer has a 5 or 6. If not, then you need to hit.

  • An ace + 4 or 5 means you need to double if the dealer is showing anything from a 4 to a 6. If not, then go for a hit.

  • An ace + 6 will equal a double if the dealer shows something between a 3 and a 6. If not, hit it.

  • For an ace and a 7 you should stand if the dealer shows a 2, a 7, or an 8. You should double if the dealer is in the 3 to 6 range. Finally, if it's any other number than hit it.

  • An ace with an 8 or 9 means stand. This is a standard strategy and a safe move.

A playing strategy if you manage to end up with pairs is easy as long as you know how to deal with it.

  • For aces and 8's you should split.

  • For 2's and 3's you should hit unless the dealer is holding a card between 2 and 7 which means you should split.

  • A set of 4's means a hit unless the dealer has a 4 or 5 which means split.

  • Two 5's will mean a double if the dealer has a 2-9. If not, hit it.

  • 6's call for a split if the dealer has between a 2 and a 6 showing. If not it calls for a hit.

  • For 7's it's a hit unless the dealers showing between a 2 and a 7.

  • 9's are a little trickier. If the dealer is showing anything from a 2 thru 6 or an 8 or 9 card than you want to split. If the dealer has a 7, 10, or ace you should stand.

  • Anything higher is an automatic stand.

If you’re looking at this and thinking, “This is impossible to learn!” I have some good news for you. It’s not! In fact, it gets easier every time you look at it and the more you attempt to play casino gambling. Give it a shot. Practice for free on the Internet and study your strategy and before you know it you’ll be the next high roller in town.
